An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) has passed a fully accredited examination set by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). Prerequisites for the board examination include thousands of hours of clinical work and dozens of educational credits in Anatomy & Physiology, Cultural Diversity, Psychology & Counseling, Child Development, Nutrition. The IBLCE certification is recognized as the Gold Standard for health professionals working with breastfeeding women, and all IBCLCs are required to adhere to IBLCE’s Professional Standards.

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birth experience possible.
